Tell
us a little about yourself: I'm
the oldest of three girls. My parents
(my mom is my aunt) adopted me when I
was 3 days old after my biological mother
was diagnosed with MS. I have been saved
by grace and washed in the blood of Jesus,
my Lord and Savior, since I was 13. I
learned sign language in church training
union and began interpreting for the deaf
at age 15. I worked interpreting in the
school system for 3 years before moving
to Franklin. I enjoy working with children
and youth so that I can pass along the
legacy of faith to the next generations
as it was passed on to me.
When did you start
singing? Can't remember when
we weren't singing. My parents had a country
music band and played on the weekends.
Daddy would often get his guitar out after
supper and we girls would sit at his feet
and listen and sing! I sang in Chorus
and the ensemble group in school, and
in the children and youth choir. I have
been a part of the adult choir and taught
children/youth music since I can remember.
What inspired you
to sing? My parents, mostly at
first. Then, although they did not go
to church, there was a Baptist church
within walking distance from our house
and mom would let us walk there every
Sunday morning. The music director, Mr.
Larry Peeples and his wife really took
us (my sisters and me) under their wings
and encouraged us to sing solos and even
got a group of us to form a girl's quartet
and encouraged us spiritually and musically.
Meeting the man of my dreams who was 6'4"
and sings like an angel was surely a God
thing! His plans are better than we can
dream. But mostly, it is the incredible
love of my Saviour and King that inspires
my song!
How long have you
been involved with the HSBC choir?
Since February, 2006. We have been a spectator
for many special events put on by the
choir for several years, though. It's
such a thrill to get to be a part of it
now up close and in person :) !
What would you say is one of your biggest,
or most important singing events of moments?
I remember my senior year in high school
our ensemble group tried out for the Christmas
Choir at Disney World. We made it and
got to participate in white choir robes
in a candle lit parade down Main Street
and into this huge set of risers made
in the shape of a Christmas tree. There
were more than 1,000 young people there!
We sang many Christmas songs, but I most
vividly remember the Hallelujah Chorus.
I truly felt I was getting a glimpse of
what the heavenly choir will be like!
Have you been a part of a singing
group? When? I sang in the Rainbow
Quartet as a youth. Then before David
and I were married we began singing with
his Dad and brother as The Bohner Family.
Then later The Bohner Family Quartet with
Lee Thomas as bass. We were the featured
gospel group for "the Florida Opry,"
a community event that happens monthly
every fall. We recorded two albums and
sang at many churches, county fairs and
religious events. We even got to sing
for a huge crowd at Cypress Gardens!
Family? [husband/wife, children, other
members of church you are related too]
I'm happily married to David Bohner, and
am the designated taxi driver for our
son Justin Bohner. Sandra Bohner, church
secretary, is my mother-in-law, and in-heart!
I had to take Bro. Gene as part of the
package deal. Really, though, he's a great
father-in-law. Eleanor Simmons is a family
member, too!
Other church organizations,
groups you are involved in? TeamKID's,
VBS, Softball
Anything else you
would like to mention? [this
is an area you can tell about your hobbies,
interests, outside the Church organizations,
affiliations] I work for the Macon
Baptist Association as Admin. Assistant
and Clerk. I teach Kindermusik here in
Franklin.
Favorite Verse?
Haggai 3:17 The Lord thy God in the midst
of thee is mighty; He will save, He will
rejoice over they with joy; He will rest
in His love, He will joy over thee with
singing.
Favorite song?
Can't pick just one. Depends on the situation.
I really like David and Justin singing
"I am your father, I am your son"
and hearing Justin sing "He had a
Plan for Me" among others. I like
"The Anchor Holds," "He
knows my name," "The Impossible."
Your favorite group?
Once again - can't choose just one. I
like Kathy Trocolli, The Issacs, Casting
Crowns, Third Day, The Florida Boys, OF
COURSE, Blue Ridge!
